Chuwi Ubook is a hybrid, a device consisting of a tablet and keyboard, which can be disconnected at any time. Thanks to this, it can play two roles: a classic tablet and something like a laptop. If necessary, the user can also use the feet to place the equipment on, for example, a desk or a table (inclination up to 145° ).
Design-wise, the Chuwi UBook comes with an aluminum alloy coating on the rear, the device looks premium, well put-together and sturdy. And at only 9mm thickness level, Chuwi managed to fit in a variety of ports on the sides of the tablet PC. On the right-hand side, there is a micro-HDMI port, USB-C port, a full-size USB-A3.1 port, and the DC power jack. On the left side there is a second USB-A 3.0 port and a 3.5mm headphone jack. At the bottom (when held horizontally), there is a magnetic connector which the keyboard attaches to.
The keyboard is easy to fix and detach. Interestingly, it is backlit, comes with a trackpad as well as spill-resistant coating. Still on the side is a built-in U-shaped kickstand which allows users swiftly switch the Chuwi UBook to any position for work, entertainment, transit or travel use. The Chuwi UBook comes with an 11.6-inch IPS display panel with a Full HD (1,920 x 1,080 pixels) resolution in 16:9 aspect ratio. The display will perform great; providing brilliant colors and an impressive visual experience generally. But what’s even more exciting about the display is its support for a stylus pen.
The Pen allows for efficient writing, sketching, drawing, coloring, painting, and note-taking. For the price the Chuwi UBook sells for, the pen is a great addition. Still about the pen; it supports 1024 pressure level.
The Chuwi UBook is powered by Intel’s Core M3-6Y30 processor which boast of a clock frequency of 2.2GHz for robust and glitch-free performance. Regarding graphics, Intel’s Integrated HD graphics unit is in charge, with the ability to decode 4K videos. Chuwi also claims that despite the ‘strong’ and nippy performance of the UBook, the processors will run efficiently without fan noise.
- Chuwi Ubook will also offer 8 GB LPDDR3 RAM and an SSD with M.2 2280 connector with a capacity of 128 GB or 1 TB, depending on the configuration. The tablet also includes a USB-C, two full-size USB 3.0 , micro HDMI and an audio connector. A separate DC port is used to charge the battery. And since we are talking about the battery, according to the declaration of the Veil, the energy reserve in the cell will last for up to 9.5 hours of operation on a single charge.
Powering the Chuwi UBook is a 30.4Wh battery which the manufacturer claims can supply, on a single charge, up to 9.5 hours of battery life.
The Chuwi UBook will be available in two different variants. A base model with 128GB SSD storage which will sell for $400 and a higher prices model with 1 Terabyte of SSD expected to cost about $700 more than the entry-level model. The 2-in-1 tablet is expected to go on pre-order by January 31st through a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter, the world’s largest funding platform for creative projects.
